About the Digital Archive

Portions of the The Frank J. Macchiarola Archive have been digitized and organized into three separate online collections: The Special Papers Collection,  The Scrapbook Collection and the Photos and Images Collection which contains personal and public photographs.

Most of the Digital Archive was collected from Dr. Macchiarola’s office at St. Francis College.  The papers were gathered by Library staff who conducted an inventory then barcoded and cataloged the volumes.  The scrapbooks and speech portions of his Special Papers were then sent to Data Conversion Laboratory where they were scanned and OCR (optical character recognition) technology was applied to make the scans keyword searchable and accessible to future researchers. Using Omeka, an open-source web archiving platform, Library Staff created a customized archive site where they uploaded the scans and added Dublin Core metadata to each item.

The Archive was officially made available to the public and research community on April 7, 2016.
